How to Improve the Quality of Machinery

The Initial Situation

John Deere is a brand with a strong reputation. To further solidify this reputation, John Deere sought a technically superior solution to replace the current vulcanized bushings that are pressed into the conventional swing arm.

The new solution had to meet three requirements:

  • Higher technical quality
  • cost reduction
  • Replacement must be possible without redesign

The Solution

In collaboration with John Deere, the arm was redesigned to meet the required specifications. The ROSTA element is a rubber torsion spring with a working range of +/-30°. The internal square is held in place by the very high preload force of the elastomers (natural rubber). The rubber and metal are not bonded or vulcanized. The torsional work takes place within the elastomers, so no shear forces occur. The results of the field test were very successful.

Products Used

The ROSTA special lever arm consists of two DR-S elements. Since the dimensions correspond to the component previously used, every harvester sold can be retrofitted with the new solution developed by ROSTA.
